1. What is a Special Permit?

A Special Permit is permission from a town board to build on, or use your property under special conditions. Typically a Special Permit is needed in sensitive areas of town where the proposed use or development is of particular concern or the property does not conform to the standard use or dimensional requirements of the town. I Special Permit requires a Public Hearing.

Oak Bluffs have three boards who Issue special Permits. the Board of Selectmen the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
